Alsahwa Net- Assassinations are terrifyingly plaguing South Yemen. Hardly a day goes by without a the assassination of political activists, journalists, teachers or civilians.
On Friday, the well-known journalist Zaki al-Saqldi was assassinated in the city of al-Dhala’a by unknown gunmen.
Security services in South Yemen remain silent. No actions were taken so far to put an end to these assassinations which mainly target those people affiliated with the Islah party.
Aden and other southern governorates have been witnessing a wave of assassinations against activists of the Islah party, mosque preachers, government soldiers and political activists. All the assassination cases remain an unresolved mystery since no one case was investigated into or any arrests in connection with the crime were made.
On Wednesday, Mohammed al-Shojayna was found dead, bullet-ridden, chained and blindfolded hours after he was reported to have been abducted by gunmen near his house earlier this Tuesday as he was heading to his work in the CSSW in Aden.
Last week, the Yemeni political parties issued a statement in which they expressed deep concern at the criminal assassinations carried out in the temporary capital of Aden and other governorates against dozens of social, political and military figures, resistance leaders, religious scholars and mosque imams.
It is widely feared that extremists could be behind the assassinations of mainstream clerics to create a vacuum for extremist preachers.
Aden has been witnessing a wave of assassinations against activists of the Islah party, mosque preachers, government soldiers and political activists. All the assassination cases remain an unresolved mystery since no one case was investigated into or any arrests in connection with the crime were made.
Last week an activist of the Islah party, Ali al-Da’usi, was assassinated in the heart of Aden, and two other activists were arrested in Ibyan by security forces which are not controlled by the government.
While the political parties strongly condemned the crimes against civilians, they affirmed that such acts risk security and public order and hold Aden’s security authorities fully responsible for maintaining security, protecting civilians, pursuing perpetrators of assassinations and bring them to justice to be punished.
“We assure that targeting political activists from any party is endangering political life as a whole and damaging coexistence and social peace, and driving the country to be embroiled in a state of turmoil and turbulence in favor of hidden agendas which do not wish Yemen to be stable and secure” they went on.
“We warn against the continuation of assassinations in the capital Aden which only aim to undermine the state institutions and the legitimate government , and plunge the country into turmoil and disorder. These assassinations are in the interests of violence and turbulence groups, the Houthi coup and Iran’s projects in the region. They also shake the community confidence in the state security services.”
They further called on the Interior Ministry to do its duties, integrate security services and unite them under the command of the state, urging all security services to be in side of the legitimate government, protect the temporary capital of Aden and put an end to all violence and repression.
“Aden must be the city of coexistence to all Yemenis and an exemplary model to all other Yemeni liberated areas. All Yemenis look forward to see Aden as the city of peace, political pluralism and varying culture, and free of hatred and all forms of intolerance,” they added.
